If I go back even further in the depths of my mind to being 16 (it wasn't THAT long ago!!) We we're probably just on the cusp of the technological break through, but we were still in simple times. We gave our mums two rings on a LAND LINE telephone to let her know we'd arrived safely at our destination. The beginnings of romances normally included love letters, nowadays it's text messages, spelt incorrectly!! I still have all the letters my lovely hubby sent me when we first started going out. He'd leave them under my pillow or he'd post it through the letter box on his way to work. Was the nicest feeling and always put a smile on my face whenever I read one of his letters (would always correct the spellings though - couldn't help myself!!) Do people still do that now?? Has the art of professing your love in a letter died?
As for social networking?? I "Like" facebook as much as the next person, but it must add further complications to matters of the heart when you're young (God I AM sounding like an old fart tonight!!)I overheard a conversation on the train the other night, two girls talking about one of the girls boyf/ex...
Girl 1. "You said last time you'd really finished with him."
Girl 2. "Yeah, it's so over this time, I've deleted him off facebook and everything."
So is that how relationships are ended this days? You just get "Deleted."
In the olden days (like 1995...) you had a row with your boyf, you stomped off home, listened to your sad songs tape, glared at any one in the house who may have been using the phone - NOT that you were waiting for Boyf to call of course...normally by the next day everything was forgotten and you were loved up again.
These days, you have a row with your boyf...stomp of home, but text on the way home to say he's a knob, text your bf to say he's a knob, update your status to say he's a knob. Then when you finally get home you log onto FB and find he's changed his status to "It's complicated" which you then notice some slapper you have never liked but who he's friends with "Likes" that it's complicated. All out war...you end up breaking up and agonise over when to delete him as a friend (Cos you can't stalk him then...err check up on what he's doing!) And woe betide if he deletes you first...
And they said "Love in the 90's is paranoid"...
