Sometimes I write random things that I have no intention of putting in the finished product, but I feel the need to get them down on paper. I find it helps with character development or sometimes it just gets rid of writer's block. One of those random ramblings I'm going to share with you... I have a dream ( don't we all...), well not quite my dream, it's my character Lucie's dream in Love Overboard. Let me bring you up to speed on the situation...
Girl meets handsome sailor boy on a cruise ship, girl and boy have a whirlwind romance on said cruise ship, girl leaves sailor boy to go back to err sunny England (as you do!!) the sands of time pass and afore mentioned girl meets very fit rugby player (I don't mean energetic here...well on second thoughts!!!) and falls in love. Fast forward five years and sailor boy is back looking for his ship mate. So what's a girl to do? Our lovely Lucie has to choose between her sailor boy and her rugby dude, she can't decide. Sometimes our dreams help us sort a problem out - here's Lucie's...she had obviously been watching too much X Factor...
“Ladies and gentlemen, it’s Saturday night and your X Factor night starts RIGHT HERE!” Delish Dermot boomed as Lucie found herself on the X Factor stage, flashing strobe lighting blinded her, music blared out and a dis-embodied voice announced her arrival.
“LUUU-CIE MAX-WEEELLLL”
Dermot was by her side, short than he looked on TV, but still cute, his arm around her as he spoke to the camera.
“So, our finalists have done all they can, now it’s down to your vote. There will be no deadlock tonight. Let’s see what our judges think. Simon?”
“Well Dermot, firstly let me say, it’s been arguably the best final we’ve ever had. Nick the sailor boy has a good gimmick with his uniform, but I think Ant’s rugby songs were stronger. It’s different, there’s a gap in the market.”
“Cheryl?”
“Why aye man.”
“Danni?”
“Can I just ask is this a singing competition?”
“Louis?”
“Look, they’re lovely lads, everywhere I go people ask me about Ant and Nick, everybody’s talking about them, but Simon, you’re breaking the rules –AGAIN. This is a singing competition. Not a dating show. The public can’t pick a winner. She has to decide herself.”
Dermot turned to Lucie. “Some tough comments there Luce, seems Louis dragged the ole rule book out –AGAIN, so… who are you gonna pick?”
Lucie was drowned out by the audience chanting…
“ANT! ANT! ANT!”
“NICK! NICK! NICK!”
Dermot had disappeared and she was standing between Nick in his Oceania uniform and Ant in his rugby kit. The audience got louder, the pressure getting to her, Simon glaring, Cheryl smiling, Danni pouting, Louis clapping his hands and bopping along with the audience, shouting away…what was he saying??? She looked closely at Louis…
“JEDWARD!” She shouted. “I choose Jedward.”
She wakes up in a cold sweat!! Well dreams (or at least mine are always random…)
