My hubby made a New Year's resolution last year that was actually quite a good one...he wanted to see a comedian on stage. Well 2010 is almost over and we managed to fulfill his resolution last night and boy was it worth the wait. We headed over to the Echo arena in Liverpool last night to see the fab John Bishop. He wasn't just fab, he was er awesome.
Scousers are famous for their humour and he literally IS famous for his humour. He manages to take everyday situations and make you laugh out loud (not just that stupid LOL that people do on texts when you know fine well people aren't sending you that text and LOL) BUT proper funny when, your shoulders are shaking cos you're laughing so much.
As we were walking up to the Arena last night a few of us were wearing jeans and we were debating if this might stop us from getting into any pubs after the show. (We've all got kids, we don't get out much) Forty minutes later The Bish was telling us about how surreal it was going to his first showbiz party, he wasn't even sure if they'd let him in cos he was wearing jeans...we all looked at each other laughing our heads off.
John kept going back to same point that he couldn't believe what a great year he'd had, he said he keeps waiting for the bubble to burst. He's just an ordinary bloke from an ordinary place who had the guts to follow his dream. That's something that stuck with me last night...I am a struggling author with a dream and maybe, if I'm brave enough I could take the word "struggling" away.
So that leads me back full circles to New Year's resolutions...I'm gonna be brave in 2011!
Thanks Bish, firstly for making me laugh so much my jaw hurt and secondly for inspiring me...
