I am not far off publication of my fourth book...wow, fourth book, that's just insane!
When I started on Betrayal twenty years ago (NOW that's scary) I didn't realize my tiny brain would hold more stories. Although the simple fact is, if I didn't write I think my head would explode. I have a very vivid and over active imagination.
So here I am, just doing the final edits for Famous & Shameless. I am massively nervous about this book as it's my first full on bonkbuster - suffice to say my nan wont be reading it! But it's been so much fun to write. I've loved making up the most insanely outlandish names like Magenta Valentina - the worlds number one rock chick and Hunter Cole - a man with a hidden past. I've given them mansions. penthouses and a beach house to live in, I've transported them by private Jet and helicopters. I've given them designer outfits, beautiful hair and perfectly white teeth and I've also given them a multitude of sins. I've got all kinds going on with these characters, culminating in the fact that one of them wants Magenta dead.
The book is largely set in Liverpool and although it sounds like you wouldn't get 'A' list visiting the CIty, you'd be surprised. In the last year we've had quite a few major films using the City as a location. So, I thought it would be quite feasible to use it as a setting for my characters. There are some great locations in Liverpool that lend itself to the plot.
I've also set part of the book in the Summer of '95 before Magenta became famous and she was in the first throes of young love. It was great going down memory lane and remembering songs from my youth, films I watched, the fashions...Magenta's first love rocks the 'curtains' hairstyle and she has a great 'Rachel' do.
All in all, I hope when you read the book, you read it for what it is....it's not meant to be War and Peace, it's just a fun light read, that's a little bit steamy (although there's no red room of pain...but there might be a menage a trois... just saying!!!)
Famous & Shameless is due out this month, in the mean time, I need to get writing book number five, This Christmas which will go back to my Love Overboard chick lit style!
This song has been in my head all week whilst I've been working on the final edits of the book...
